Mom is back
Mom went to New York for Marc’s wedding. I picked her up from the airport on Thursday night, and she was off for home on Friday. A busy woman!
Rosh Hashonah
We all took the day off and celebrated. We were at the synagogue from 10:30-1, then went out to dim sum at Champagne restaurant in San Mateo. Then home to relax, and the kids did some homework. A nice way to start 5773.
Vegetable Family Evening
Diner was fun tonight. Early in the afternoon (OK, right after she woke up), Katelyn said “Can we make a big pot of vegetable soup? And a big salad to eat while we’re waiting for the soup to cook?” How can you say no to that? So we made a trip to the store and loaded up on good stuff, everyone chopped and advised and stirred and seasoned, and we had a fabulous dinner while watching “Spirited Away“. What a wonderful family evening!
Dinner with Out-of-town Family
On 8/31 I went to San Francisco and had dinner at Max’s Opera Cafe with Susan, Joel, Joe, and Kathy. Joe and Kathy were taking a break from their busy life in Manhattan to go to a wedding in Napa. It was a quick visit, only a couple of hours, but nice to see everyone. The kids couldn’t go because they were at Glynis & Susan’s, and Val wasn’t up to going out yet.
Haley Visits Grandma
Haley has spent T-Th this week visiting Grandma Adrien. It’ll be nice to see her this afternoon – I haven’t seen her for many days.
Dinner with Tina and Michael
The whole family had dinner out with Tina (Uncle Bobby’s sister) and her boyfriend Michael at Luna Park in SF last Friday the 3rd. They’re here on vacation until Tuesday the 7th. It was great to connect and catch up.
Company Picnic
I picked Haley up from the camp bus and we headed over to Menlo College for the Guidewire Company Picnic. It was great fun with good food, a petting zoo complete with fuzzy chickens, goats, deer, and bunnies, face painting (although the girls got their arms painted), carnival games, a bouncy house (the girls were too old, though), and lots of nice people. It was quite a contrast to last year when I knew almost nobody because I’d just started at the company. This year I knew lots of people and had a great time introducing Val and the kids to everyone.
Pictures here.
Katelyn visits Grandma
Katelyn had a fun trip to Grandma’s last Sunday through Wednesday. She took CalTrain by herself down to San Jose and back, whcih was a first. They saw a movie, did a little shopping, and hung out.
George’s 75th Birthday – visit to another synagogue
Val and I attended services at Congregation B’nai Emunah in San Francisco this morning, in honor of George Wertheim’s 75th birthday, which is tomorrow. The service was a bit different than what we’re used to, being more in Hebrew and using different melodies for some of the songs, but was delightful nonetheless. The congregation was very friendly and welcoming, and they even invited us, as newcomers, to do an Aliyah!
Val’s home, Kids are gone
Dropped the kids off with Glynis & Susan at Amtrak, went shopping, then picked Val up at the airport.
The itinerary on the train has changed since they won’t stop in Grand Junction due to the fires in Colorado. Glynis is disappointed at not being able to go to Pike’s Peak.
