Read-Ended

Got read-ended in stop-and-go traffic on my way to work on Tuesday. No injuries. The rear bumper on my car needs replacing and the trunk has some dents, but everything is workable for now. I’ll take it to the body shop next week.

I felt really sorry for the other driver. She was 18 years old, was driving her parents’ car, and had just gotten her license two months prior.

Amazing Party

My birthday party was an overwhelming success.  Check out the pictures!

Joanie, Kathie, and Andrea showed up at 10:30 to start, and worked their butts off until the party at 2, setting up tables, awnings, food, drinks, our wine tasting station, flowers, and so much more.

The party was scheduled to start at 2, but the first guests didn’t start arriving until about 2:30. People came in a steady stream, peaking at around 4:30, the advertised time for cake.

We had a wine tasting station for checking out various wines we’d received as gifts. We had a “Make a Memory for Marilyn” station where people made cute signs with markers and stickers, to be included in a memory book. Many visits were made to the lookout at the top of the hill. People seemed to really have a good time, and I got to socialize with everyone. The kids all hung out together in the living room, where Val’s Solar Fire pinball machine was a big hit. Throughout the party Joanie, Kathie, and Andrea continued to work, keeping everything tidy, replenishing snacks, cooking burgers, and everything else.

The cake was awesome. The company was awesome. The food was awesome.  The weather was awesome. The whole party was awesome.

The last guests left around 7, except for a handful who stayed for a more “adult” after-party. That went on until the wee hours, and was also a great success.

I can’t think of a better way to kick off the next decade. Thanks to all of my friends and family who shared it with me, and of course to Val who planned it, and Joanie who made it into a party.

Sneaky Decorating

On Thursday Val started talking about perhaps going out to dinner tonight, just the two of us. It was uncharacteristic of her to do logistics like that a day in advance, but I just thought it was sweet. We had a lovely sushi dinner and came home to a house that had been stealthily decorated by Kathie and Joanie. It says “Happy 50” all over my house, complete with streamers and banners and even a bit of glitter. A lovely way to start my special day, a bit early.

We had dinner at the same place we went on our first date, over 11 years ago. Romantic, eh?

Almost 50

I can’t believe I’m going to turn 50 tomorrow. How can that be? I don’t feel 50. (Well, sometimes my body does! 🙁 ) I feel about 33, but wiser. Looking forward to a big party tomorrow, surrounded by lots of friends and familiy and love and fun.

PTA Website

I’m obviously a candidate for Volunteers Anonymous because I volunteered to set up the new PTA web site for Taylor. We had a design meeting on 9/15, after which I put together a draft. Hopefully we’ll get it going soon.

Back MRI

I had an MRI on my back on 9/10. It was really uncomfortable because my big belly meant I had a lot of pressure there, and it was hard to breathe. But I put up with it for 45 minutes. The doctor says I have deterioration in my lower few vertebrae, and narrowing of the nerve channels there. Yuck.

Panel on Informational Interviewing

I participated in a panel on “Informational Interviewing” for the Jewish Vocational Services, on 9/11. About 20 people were in attendance, all in various stages of job searching. Jeanine at the JVS really helped me with my resume and other skills, which I’m sure contributed to me landing my great job at Guidewire.

Lunch with Francesca

Francesca and I also try to get together on a regular basis. On 9/10 we had lunch at the Pho Saigon Meat and Noodle House in San Mateo, and just chatted and strolled afterwards.

A Shot in the Thumb?

That’s right. On 9/5 I visited the doctor who’s been treating my broken/dislocated thumb from my fall in February. It’s been “clicking” and really sore. Turns out I have a “Trigger Thumb“, so I ended up getting a steroid injection n the base of my thumb.
