Haley’s Class’s Shabbat Service

Haley’s religious school class led the Shabbat service on 4/12. This was a special service for Yom Hashoah, the Day of Remembrance, remembering the Holocaust. Her class has been studying the Holocaust this year. It’s a difficult subject, but important that we don’t lose our history.

Speakers Bureau at Monte Vista HS

I sat on panels in two separate classes on 4/10 at Monte Vista HS in Cupertino, for the PFLAG Speaker’s Bureau. At this school every Freshman takes Biology, and we speak in every Biology class, so every single Freshman student is exposed to this. How great!

Katelyn – IOP

Katelyn started the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Mills Hospital on 4/3. She goes every day from 3:30-6:15. This continues until she’s ready to graduate, anywhere from 6-16 weeks. The number of days per week gradually tapers off.

Passover Seder

We ended up with 25 people at our seder. I took Friday off, Val was off on Friday so worked hard, and Mom came to help, of course. The kids also helped a lot on Friday. On Saturday Glynis did a trade: she came over to help, in return for excusing the kids from helping for a bit to take them out for a hike. A good dea all around!

Everyone brought something, so the cooking wasn’t onerous. We had some new guests we hadn’t had, and incorporated their Passover traditions with ours. In addition to our family, here’s who attended:

Jann & Trev
Michelle & Barry
Ruth , Tyler, E, Levi, Pearl
Liza & Jody
Glynis & Susan
George & Linda
Jennifer & Selena
Stacy
Kathie
Karen
Ray

Passover – Day 1

I spent the first night of Passover, on 3/25, with Mom and 3 of her close friends. It was a delightful evening, an intimate sharing of Passover with non-Jewish people.

Speaking for PFLAG

I’m on the Speaker’s Bureau for the San Jose chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays). On 3/20 I spoke on a panel in a Human Sexuality class at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont. Pretty progressive for a Catholic university.

Gym & Lunch with Freda

On 3.17 Freda joined me at the Peninsula JCC where I go to the gym. We had a fun shared workout, and lunch afterwards. What a great time to spend with a friend.
